WHAT TO EXPECT

Being new to a studio can be a little intimidating.  The information outlined below is an effort to help answer any questions you have, and prepare you for your first class with us.  The most important thing to know is that we were there once, and totally remember that feeling.  So read on, give us a ring or just arrive 20-30 minutes before your first class and we’ll take care of everything.  If you do this, bring stretchy clothes with you, we can take care of the rest!

WHERE TO START?

Picking which class to start with can be tricky when we use words that seem like another language. Don’t worry, we’ve all been there, and know the feeling. Below is a starting point to help you navigate where to begin! When in doubt, give us a ring, or email us at clientsupport@yogalabwestshore.ca and we can give you a more tailored guide!

WHAT TO BRING

– An open mind.

– Stretchy clothes that are loose fitting and comfy.

– Water bottle (can be purchased).

– 1 yoga mat (can be rented).

– 1 Mat towel for any of our Warmer to Hot classes (can be rented).

– 1 Shower towel (can be rented).

– 1 small lock if you want to lock your bag up.

– Something small to eat post class such as fruit and nuts, peanut butter and celery.

STUDIO ETIQUETTE

– Come hydrated and eat something small about 1 hour before you arrive.

– Arrive early 20-30 minutes.

– Park at Walmart to avoid trying to find parking.

– Check in at the front desk, pay and fill out the waiver if required.

– Be patient if the front desk is busy, we like to check in with everyone as they sign in.

– Absolutely NO cellphone use is permitted once you take your shoes off and pass the couch.  This means no cell phone use in the change rooms or in the practice room.  This is intended for the safety of other students and the quiet solitude of the practice room.

– Make sure you shower off any heavily smelling perfumes.

– Lie your mat down with the top butting up to the black line on the floor.

– Grab a sweat rag (please don’t take it home though).

– If you like it when a teacher adjusts you or gives you massages, grab a small wooden chip from the basket (located in the practice room).

– Check the white board beside the practice room front door, it will tell you if you need special equipment.

– If the lights are up feel free to chat with others, if the lights are down, please no talking before, during or after the class is over.

– Take some time to linger on your mat before you leave the room.

– Spray your mat and hang it on the rack so it can dry, if it’s a rental, leave it hanging.

– Not sure if you’ll remember it all, don’t worry – we were all new too, you’ll start to get the hang of it over time!

Mary-Ann is always there to greet you with a warm heart and huge smile rooted in her excitement at the opportunity to give back to life with a whole sense of self.

On top of being a wonderful yoga teacher, she also has a diploma in Bio Energy Medicine, a degree in Holistic Health Science and a certification in Clinical Hypnotherapy. This wealth of knowledge and experience is evident in Mary-Ann's teaching practice.

Mary-Ann, we adore you. Thank you for the warmth, love and wisdom you bring to our community.

Geez it's been a chilly week!
Next time you come in to warm your bones, breathe and get your sweat on, grab a cup of tea and get that heat building in your body before you even step jnto the hot room.

The tea we currently offer is called Hot Yogi Tea and is a herbal blend created just for us by Foxglove Botanicals.

During those minutes before and after a class, the hot room is held as a silent space. Please be respectful of this expectation so as to support not only those you share the space with, but also your self.

Silence and stillness can be powerful tools. Our hope & intention is to hold space for you to explore them within an often overstimulating world.

If you feel like chatting, reading a book or just simply not observing silence, please feel free to hang out on the couches in our community space!
